USAFA RECOGNITION - MY EXPERIENCE
Recognition is a USAFA tradition where 'unrecognized' freshman get their opportunity to showcase everything they've learned throughout the entire year, and get their skills put to their test. They're usually pushed past their physical, mental, and emotional limits during a 3 day culminating event. If successfully completing it, freshman earn their 'prop & wings' and become 'recognized' cadets, meaning they get the rights and privileges of an upperclassman.
The recognition experience this year - for our class of 2027, was very different than any year before. Unfortunately, the first two day were cancelled due to a crazy snow storm, that led to the entire base being closed. Instead of military activities, the school kind of came together and did a lot of fun activities like sports, snowball fights, and snow fort making. We were luckily able to do recognition activities for the third day, however it was nothing like the traditional experience. But most importantly - my squad mates and I, all got recognized!
