Venice Film Festival | Activists & Celebrities Show Support For Iran In Venice Film Festival | N18V
On Saturday, at the Venice Film Festival, the red carpet was transformed from a scene of glamour and opulence into a platform for solidarity, with celebrities and activists coming together to stage a spontaneous show of support for the Iranian people, displaying placards and banners.
Demonstrators, including festival director Alberto Barbera and members of the jury, chanted “Free Iran” and “Women, life, freedom”.
Many protesters held posters with pictures of Iranian director Saeed Roustaee, who was imprisoned for screening a film at Cannes without government permission last year.
Roustaee competed in Cannes with “Leila’s Brothers”, a family drama set against Iran’s economic hardships.
