Simanews Iran New Karrar Main Battle Tank 720p

The Karrar (striker) is a new Iranian main battle tank. It is a significantly upgraded version of the Iranian T-72S tank. A number of these tanks were supplied to Iran from Soviet Union. Currently Iran operates around 480 T-72S and even older T-72M1 tanks that could be upgraded to new standard. Footage on the Karrar was released in 2016. The tank itself was first publicly revealed in 2017. The upgraded tank is fitted with new turret, new add-on armor, new observation and aiming systems, new fire control system, and has a number of other upgrades. All of these upgrades significantly improved combat capabilities of the ageing T-72 series tanks in the key areas of protection, firepower and, possibly, mobility. As of 2017 production of the Karrar is underway. However it is unclear if a pre-production or full-scale production batch is being built.
  Development of the Karrar was clearly assisted by Russia. It has a number of similarities with the Russian T-90MS and uses some similar components. It might be a license-produced version of the T-90MS from the Russian supplied components. However the Karrar is not as capable as the T-90MS. It is also inferior to modern Western and Chinese main battle tanks.
