How to Use Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Pro is one of the most powerful editing apps out there and you can use it on Mac or PC.
In this video, I’ll show you everything from getting the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro, starting and editing your first project, using filters and transitions, some advanced techniques with color and audio, and exporting and finishing your video.

First, let me show you how to get the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro. They offer a free trial to the full application, so you can download it from the link below this video.
Adobe offers two ways to use Premiere Pro. You can use the free trial link and then pay monthly for Adobe Premiere Pro or you can get a bundle of 20-plus apps called Adobe Creative Cloud. This includes Photoshop, Aftereffects, and a lot of other video and design apps.
This is the one I have, but you can start with the stand-alone Adobe App.
Once you install and open Premiere Pro for the first time, you’ll see a welcome screen.
CREATING YOUR FIRST PROJECT
You can create a new project from here.
Here, you can name your project and choose a destination folder for your files.
I recommend using an external hard drive for this to keep everything organized.
INTERFACE OVERVIEW AND IMPORTING MEDIA
Next, you want to choose default editing and bring in your video files, photos, and music.
Everything I’m using for this video is from a website called Envato Elements. Envato Elements is an all-in-one platform for digital assets like stock videos, photos, music, and more. And everything comes with a license, so you won’t have copyright issues.
I’ll include a 7-day free link in the description if you want to download some items to follow along.
You can download unlimited items from this website. And I’ve used it for all my projects for several years.
ASSEMBLY
Next, you want to begin editing and the first step is assembly. That’s when you choose the best clips and add them to your editing timeline.
You can use the keyboard shortcut I, for input, and o for outpoint to select the best part of a clip.
Then, you can drag and drop that selection onto your timeline. You can also use insert or override.
CHANGING THE ORDER OF CLIPS
You can simply grab a clip and move it to where you want.
You can also override another clip by placing a clip on top of it.
TRIMMING AND CUTTING
You can use the cut tool to make cuts to any clip. You can also grab the end or beginning of the clip to change the start and end points.
ADDING BROLL
Broll are clips you can add to a different video track when someone is talking. You can simply grab a clip and add it to video track two.
ADDING IMAGES
You can do the same with images. Simply grab an image from Envato or your computer and add it to a second video track.
ADDING MUSIC
Music is a great way to complete an edit. You can add a track to one of the open audio tracks. Simply grab the bar to adjust the volume.
USING TRANSITIONS AND FILTERS
Transitions and filters help take your edit to the next level. Premiere Pro has a ton of options here inside of the effects library that you can drag and drop to your timeline.
USING TEXT
There is a text tool in premiere and you can simply type text on top of your video. You can change font size, color, and style.
SAVING AND EXPORTING
When you are done with a project, it’s recommended that you save it, so you can come back to your work.
Once you save it, you can export it for the web or social media posting.
