Chiaroscuro Playlist: Chiaroscuro Technique
Andrea Russo's work (he has an entire album exploring the technique): https://www.flickr.com/photos/9874847...

This technique was first explored in depth by Andrea Russo then also explored widely by Benjamin Parker, which is how I originally discovered the technique. You can find their explorations into the technique on Andrea's Flickr page or on Benjamin’s website. They’ve done some amazing things with it, the possibilities with chiaroscuro are endless so I highly recommend checking their work out.
The term chiaroscuro in art is used to refer to the strong use of contrast between light and dark, or the use of light and dark to create an illusion of three dimensional volume on a flat surface. In Italian chiaro means clear or bright and oscuro means obscure or dark so the word roughly translates to light-dark. And I believe the term was first used in origami by Andrea Russo who is an Italian origami artist.
