Why Palpatine Couldn’t Use Essence Transfer on Rey

In The Rise of Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine urges Rey to strike him down with all of her hatred. Through his manipulation of the dark side of the force, Palpatine then planned to pass his spirit from his clone body into that of his granddaughter. As we all know, however, Rey’s victory over her grandfather did not appear to have any such effect. In this video, we explore why Rey was able to defeat Palpatine while avoiding his possession.
