Object-oriented programming, or OOP for short, is a programming language model used for software design. It organizes its design around data or objects, rather than functions and logic. An object, in this model, is a data field that has unique attributes and behavior. It can be a something physical, like a person that's described by their name and address, or a small computer program like a widget.

Object-oriented programming focuses on the objects developers want to manipulate, rather than the logic needed to manipulate them. In other words, it focuses on the what, rather than the how. This approach works well for large, complex, and frequently updated programs, and lends itself well to collaborative group projects.
