He is considered one of the greatest commanders in history, and his wars and campaigns are studied at military schools worldwide. Napoleon was also a political innovator, and his Napoleonic Code, a civil code, still forms the basis of law in several countries. However, his ambitions ultimately led to his downfall and exile, and he died in captivity on the island of Saint Helena.
