The Royal Tiara and its alluring emeralds. A Tiara that was admired by many, owned by many and yet today has been forgotten by many. Once belonging to the Romanovs, this Yugoslavian Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara is enchantingly beautiful. The enticing emeralds in the center of the tiara originally belonged to Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna who was also known as Princess Elizabeth of Hesse and by Rhine. The gemstones were a part of her emerald parure which was presented to her by her mother-in-law, Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, as a wedding gift.

Later in the year 1908, The Grand Duchess Elizabeth gave the emerald set as a wedding present to her adopted niece, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna (The Young) when she married Prince Wilhelm of Sweden.

The Russian Revolution changed the world of the Romanovs upside down. Maria Pavlovna who managed to escape, like many other exiled Romanovs, was forced to sell her jewels in order to survive. She had to sell her Tiara which was bought by none other than King Alexander I of Yugoslavia who was encouraged by Queen Maria of Yugoslavia to buy the Tiara for her as a wedding gift.
