The film "In Memory of Kiyan Pirfalak" commemorates Kiyan Pirfalak (ca. 2013 – 16 Nov. 2022) "who was killed in a shooting by the security forces of Iran in his parent's vehicle in the city of Izeh in Iran" (Source: en.wikipedia). In particular, the film was intended to mark the 40th day after Kiyan's death (Persian: چهلم or "Chehellom"), i.e. Monday, 26th Dec. 2022.

The death of Kiyan has shaken thousands of people inside Iran and outside of the country.  All of us have met this type of talented and passionate and magnetic boys in our lives and this makes the loss even more palpable and painful. Many people felt the urge to commemorate Kiyan in one way or another. Clips and animations were made, children (e.g. in Australia) made such popsicle stick boats as he did.
This film is meant to be a humble contribution to all the Art in Memory of Kiyan.

The main message of the film is that not only has Kiyan suffered the largest loss possible, the loss of his life. But with his untimely death, all humanity has suffered a serious loss, the loss of a worthy individual. Had he had the chance to grow up, he would have undoubtedly become a valuable member of the global community. He would have studied, probably engineering or computer science or robotics; and taking his intellect, his manual skills, his positive attitude and need to make and do practical things, he would have enriched the world with original and useful inventions. The loss of any worthy individual deprives not just his or her family, not just his or her countrymen, but ALL humanity of the good this person would have brought to the world. It is an irreparable loss...

Kiyan is not the only victim of the repressions of the so-called Mahsa Amini Protests in Iran. As of 2 Jan. 2023, nearly 500 civilian Iranians have been killed. Unfortunately, he is not the youngest one, either. An unnamed 2-year old boy and a 6-year old girl named Hasti Naruii were both killed on 30 Sept. 2022 in the Zahedan Massacre also known as the Bloody Friday in Zahedan in south-eastern Iran.

Several films from Kiyan's life circulated on Iranian media after his death. The most famous one is the clip in which he shows and tries out his newly made popsickle stick boat. Iranians have started calling this type of DIY boat "Kiyan's Boat" (Persian: قایق کیان or "qayeq-e Kiyan"). And since the first words he utters in this clip are "[In the name of] the God of the Rainbow" (Persian: خدای رنگین‌کمان or "Khoda-ye Ranginkaman"), the expression "The God of the Rainbow" or "Rainbow God" has become a reference to Kiyan and the Iranian protests in general in the Persian speaking world.
