How to Use Excel Formulas and Functions: The Basics

This tutorial explains how to use formulas and functions in Excel.  Three simple functions are demonstrated in this video, the SUM function, the AVERAGE function and the MEDIAN function.  Once you see how easy it is to use these functions, it is a simple matter to use any of Excel's other functions.  Constructing formulas is also reviewed in this video, including how to make sure the formulas conform to the rules of precedence in mathematics, using PEMDAS.  The terms "relative" cell reference and "absolute" cell reference were discussed and examples shown, as well as how to "fix" a cell so that it is an absolute cell reference.  By default Excel uses relative cell references. At the end of the video there is an explanation on how to add notes or comments to your Excel spreadsheet.
