Maryam Mursal QAX 1993
20 years ago we helped the famous Somali singer Maryam Mursal Isse, make this recording in Denmark.
This is the original production we made with Maryam, and our own pictures from Somalia, when she first came here as a refugee from war torn Somalia in 1992.
QAX means REFUGEE and is a song about her long hard journey out of Mogadishu, via Kenya and Djibouti, to Denmark, where she was finally able to find rest and peace, for a while, enabling her to get back into her original trade of music. Her career took off again after the release of this song as well as SOMALI UDIIDA CEB and gave her a new platform from which to support her family and to bring hope to the hundreds of thousands of Somalis scattered all over the world, as a result of the long and violent civil war in their homeland.
She later made several records and have played withmany reknowned artists, a.o. Peter Gabriel
