In the aftermath of his failure at Yavin, Darth Vader led the Star Destroyer Reprisal under Commander Demmings’ command in the hunt for the Rebel Fleet. After multiple engagements, no survivors could be found for interrogation. Furious with the crew’s incompetence, Vader taught the commander the consequences of failure. However, the Sith sensed only loyalty from Demmings and allowed him to live. Setting a trap, Vader targeted a Rebel base, disguised as a harmless colony, in the Ejolus system. Demmings ordered gunner Lieutenant Dox to perform a surgical strike, but when the smoke cleared, the settlement had been decimated. Vader immediately ordered Dox’s arrest and revealed the gunner’s Alderaanian heritage. Vader accused Dox of sabotaging their efforts out of sympathy for the Rebel cause before revealing the settlement Dox had just destroyed was no Rebel base, but was, in fact, a refuge for survivors of Alderaan.
