This theatrical play written by William Shakespeare (OTHELLO: The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice) is based on the National Theater Company's 3-year staging (1964-1966) by John Dexter at the Old Vic (there, Sir Laurence Olivier had played Iago with Ralph Richardson in OTHELLO at 1937-38 and, after that, he was the artistic director there). Directed in 1965 by Stuart Burge in Shakespeare's Quarter Centenary year  this is the first Shakespearian color movie in the British language. Laurence Olivier talks about his role in an interview at Bobbie Wygant Archive. This theatrical TV movie is considered as the most rare, exquisitive and legendary performance of Sir Laurence Olivier praised by Franco Zeffirelli as "an anthology of everything that has been discovered about acting in the past three centuries" immediately followed by KHARTOUM in 1966.
