Samurai Battle Festival - Battle of Okehazama: Oda Nobunaga
In 1560 the history of Japan changed. A great warlord was making a military march to Kyoto to set himself up as the unifier of Japan with the approval of the Emperor and the Shogun. One small domain stood in his way to glory - the domain of a minor and said to be foolish lord, Oda Nobunaga.
One afternoon as the great forces of the warlord rested, the outnumbered and daring Oda Nobunaga struck at the center of the camp killing the great warlord. Literally with one stroke, Oda Nobunaga changed the course of Japanese history and propelled himself into a position to begin the unification process of war-torn Japan.
This was the Battle of Okehazama and every year the small district of Okehazama holds a small festival to celebrate the battle.
