This is the new Apple Watch Series 7. Today we will look at it’s new features, will also walk you through how I use the watch day to day and finally answer the question of whether you should buy or upgrade to the Series 7. From the perspective of someone who has used the Series 7 since launch after upgrading from the Series 3. I opted to go for the 41mm version in Midnight. I choose the midnight color as this is the darkest colour apple provides, similar but ever so slightly darker compared to the iPhone 13. The biggest upgrade that the Series 7 gets is in the display. Compared to last year’s Apple Watch Series 6, it is 20% larger and 50% larger compared to Series 3. Apple have kept the physical dimensions of the watch the same. My 41mm Series 7 looks the same on my wrist as the 38mm Series 3. This is thanks to much smaller screen bezels on the Series 7. Allows for content on the screen to be pushed out further. Making text, photos, maps more clear. Apple now includes a full on-screen keyboard. Layered on top of the display is a new front crystal that is 50% thicker making the watch more crack resistant and durable. There is also this new wrap-around effect that is created by refracted light at the edge of the display. The Series 7 is water resistant to 50 meters so to say you wear it in the rain would be am understatement. The Series 7 also gets a few exclusive watch faces including this Contour watch face and Modular Duo. The Series 7 also has an always-on display, also found in the Series 6 and Series 5. Coming from the Series 3 this was my first time having an always-on display and I love it. Apple rates the battery life on the Series 7 at 18 hours, just like previous models. I am glad that the battery life was similar to the Series 3. I charge my watch in the morning, in 30-45 minutes the Series 7 charges from 30% to around 90%, more than enough to get me through the day. Thanks to new fast charging on the Series 7. The magnetic charging puck will charge the watch 33% faster. 8 mins of charging now allows for 8 hours of sleep tracking. Speaking of sleep tracking, the Series 7 is packed with health sensors and features. It can measure your blood oxygen. Take an ECG. Continuously measure your heart rate. Sleep tracking. Receiving notifications on my Apple Watch is fantastic. I keep my phone on silent and feel all important notifications come in through the excellent hectic feedback. Siri on my wrist is super convenient. Maps is great on the Apple Watch. When it comes to staying active having an Apple Watch, for me has really been a motivating tool to have. As a goal oriented person I find the activity rings to be great way to motivate me to complete them as much as possible. Lets talk about if it is worth upgrading. If you have a Series 3 the Series 7 is a big enough jump in all key aspects to justify an upgrade. If you have a SE or Series 5 it is a bit more difficult. If you want the latest and greatest, then the Series 7’s the better display alone will make a significant. Especially coming from the SE which does not have an always on display. Otherwise the SE and Series 5 are both capable watches. My advice would be to wait for the Series 8 or Series 9. If your apple watch breaks or gets lost or something, then I would suggest buying the Series 7 to get all the latest and greatest features and a watch that will last many years to come.
