Pinlock is the first name of anti-fog face shields. Pinlock has been available in the US since 2005, and now most helmet manufactures offer a Pinlock lens option to work with their helmet. Pinlock is a two-part system that creates a fog-free faceshield. Unlike coatings that can scratch or wear off, or simply aren't effective in very low temperatures, Pinlock creates a dual-glazed window out of your faceshield. Pinlock consists of a Pinlock-ready faceshield that has the posts or "pins" that the Pinlock lens snaps into. The second component is a moisture absorbing, soft plastic lens with a silicone bead that is locked to the inside of the shield and uses a layer of air to insulate inside temperatures and resist fogging. Some helmets come with Pinlock ready faceshields, some also include the lens, such as the Schuberth C3 or the HJC CL-16. For other helmets, an aftermarket faceshield can be purchased along with the lens to turn your helmet into a true fog-free lid.
