‘Drain the Titanic’ allows viewers to see the wreck out of the water for the very first time.

This National Geographic documentary employed computer-generated imagery to reveal how it would look if all the water was removed from RMS Titanic's final resting place.

The most controversial theory to come out of this documentary is that the ship broke in two almost three quarters of the way down, which disputes many eyewitnesses who claim to have seen the ship broke up on the surface.

The documentary states the bow hit at 35mph, and the stern hit at 54mph in a corkscrew descent, then swiped along the ocean floor.

Using comprehensive mapping data collected in 2010, the film-makers also estimate the ship had approximately 10 to 12 square feet of damage, not the 300 foot gash widely believed. With the ship now in the sun, there was literally terabytes of data to analyze, which included trying to determine the ship’s speed when it hit the seafloor.

Seeing Titanic in the sunlight however is thrilling, and the ocean draining away to 12 thousand feet below is a sight that stays with you.
