This simple and easy tutorial will explain how to record a YouTube video with OBS studio. Scott starts by explaining the settings for OBS Studio. The tutorial assumes that you have one computer and that you are making a reaction video or tutorial based on software that is playing on that single computer.  This lesson does not explain how to connect two computers.  I say this because some gamers desire improved performance by having a second gaming computer, which gets recorded by a second system that runs OBS Studio. That tutorial is for another time.

The tutorial digs right into the best settings for your recorded video.  Scott chooses 1080p at 60 frames per second for his resolution, but you can select a large video size of 4K. Just understand that if your recorded video is longer than 10 minutes, you could be facing a video file size that will be gigabytes in size. Make sure that your system has the available storage for the 4K setting.  If you choose the larger size, one way of reducing file size is to choose 30 frames per second instead of 60.

Another parameter that impacts the size of your file is the bit rate.  Bitrate is the amount of information used to generate your video file. If your streaming video, this becomes very important because the data pipe (connection speed) used to send the info can be limited.  In this use case, we are NOT streaming, and so if you select your video card as the encoder (not your CPU), you can choose "lossless" as the bitrate.  In other words, there is no bitrate throttling, and your created video will clear regardless of the amount of motion and detail shown on the video. Video quality is our goal with OBS Studio.

This tutorial also demonstrates how to create three scenes.  Each scene uses two sources a YouTube browser window and a C922 webcam source.
The only difference between the scenes is that the C922 sources are placed in different places in the video area. When hotkeys are set up, a simple keyboard click moves your face in various locations on the screen, which creates a slick effect when making your videos.

OBS Studio is free, and learning how to record a YouTube video with OBS is tons of fun because when you learn hotkeys, you begin to realize the power at your fingertips.

I wish you all the success with your YouTube channel
