Learn to make Bemieh (aka Bamia), a super healthy Okra Stew popular in Middle Eastern, African, Persian and Indian cuisines. ِHowever, it is increasingly entering more cuisines given its remarkable benefits.

Bemieh can be made out of fresh, frozen or dried okra pods. All are delicious but needless to say, nothing beats fresh! That’s why I grabbed the opportunity of a summer visit to Lebanon to make it in season. After Mloukhieh (Molokhia) and often competing with it, Bemieh is a favorite for many. As a child, I simply hated it! And hated when my Mom cooked it for lunch. Later, as my taste buds developed, I grew to love it – and to regret every moment I fussed about anything Mom cooked for us…

Okra is one of the most nutritious vegetables; it is loaded with Vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. Because it is low in calories, it is often featured in weight reduction programs.
Bemieh is well suited to a gluten-free diet. Vegetarians and vegans can try it with vegetable broth.
