Three Faces Of A Woman. Episode one Soraya

I always wanted to see why the Italian director, Michelangelo Antonioni, was after Suraya, the second beautiful wife of Mohammad Reza Shah, to make a film about her. Only recently,  I found a not so high quality copy of this movie.  Soraya speaks Persian, English, German, French and Italian in the film, entitled "Three Faces of a Woman” (1965) The film consists of three parts about a woman Which Soraya plays in all three. And I think the first part, which can be said to be somewhat a semi-documentary and directed by Antonioni, is better than the other two.  I think Kiarostami must have seen this film and taken the idea of ​​"close-up" from this section (of course, this does not diminish the value of "close-up", which I think is Kiarostami's most beautiful and best work, because great artists always learn from each other but do not imitate or copy.) In the second part She is a married woman, who lives with a writer because ‌ She always thinks that her rich and cold husband will eventually return to her. And so he does but his return is because he wants to divorce her. In the third part, she plays an important capitalist woman who comes to Rome (Italy) for a big purchase contract.  And a man who has a wife and two children and his job is to sell love and serve the rich women who come to Rome for a short time seeking for love. And this is the part that makes the film a comedy, especially that the role of this married man “The Latin Lover” who, according to himself is a family man who has to put bread on his family’s table, is played by Alberto Sordi, who for the first time fails in his career and cannot sell love to this woman.

Soraya did not act in any other films after this.  But if she continued, she could have competed with Ingrid Bergman or even Eva Gardner and other beautiful Stars of Hollywood movies of the sixties and seventies. But why she didn’t? there are many stories and rumors about it .
