Protecting nature has not typically been associated with accounting but with a climate crisis, the world is waking up to the realisation that this issue is collective and action must be taken across each and every sector. Multinational businesses dwarf some entire economies, creating enormous impact on our world. Natural capital accounting offers a new mechanism to help businesses recognise their dependencies on nature so they can take action to protect it. This new form of accounting uses the traditional format of financial statements to make it easier for businesses to make natural capital as important as financial capital.
