Tanbur by Xavi Muñoz Corrales, arrangement by Farya Faraji. The melody isn't my composition--it's a melodic motif from the region of Kermanshah called the Maqam Khan Amiri, played wonderfully here by my good friend Xavi Muñoz Corrales, a Spaniard who plays the tanbur and the setar better than most Iranians do, certainly better than I do myself. I definitely recommend you check his channel Espacio Persa: @espaciopersa8160, where he plays Iranian instruments authentically and with a perfect understanding of Iranian musical language, as well as informative videos in Spanish about the history and culture of Iran, with a specific emphasis on its Persian branch as the name of the channel suggests, and often forays into Kurdish or Southern subjects. Kermanshah has a vibrant and ancient tradition of tanbur playing, and many of its melodic motifs such as this one are almost exclusively meant for the usage of this instrument, given its spiritual weight--the tanbur being associated with spirituality along with the daf percussions, an association usually not found with most other Iranian instruments to that high of a degree.
