Remdesivir & SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) | Mechanism of Action, Adverse Effects and Overview of Anti-Viral Properties
In this lesson, I discuss the antiviral known as remdesivir, including how it is administered, adverse effects of its use, mechanism of action, and an overview of the antiviral effects remdesivir has on coronaviruses like SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
1) Brief Introduction to Remdesivir, including what it is and what it was originally designed to treat
2) Overview of mechanism of Remdesivir’s anti-viral effects on coronaviruses like SARS-CoV-2
3) Summary of some Remdesivir data in in-vitro and in-vivo (mice and rhesus monkeys) studies used in treatment of other coronaviruses like SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV

DISCLAIMER All of these mechanisms have ONLY been shown in in-vitro studies (in a cell culture plate), so these mechanisms MAY NOT translate to actual clinical significance in treating humans.
