گرمسار در گذشته خوار نام
گرمسار در گذشته خوار نام داشته است. خوار نامی قديمی بوده و به دوره قبل از اسلام و ايران باستان مربوط می‌شود. در دوران اسلامی نیز خوارری نام داشته است.
این شهر يكی از شانزده سرزمين اوستا (به نام ورن) بوده كه حتی در زمان آشوريان خوارا نام داشته و در دوره اشکانی اهميت بسیاری داشته است، در زمان سلوكيان بناهای شهرهای مهمی از جمله خاراكس در آن درست شده است.
در معجم البلدان چنین نوشته شده است:
خوار شهری است تاريخی و بزرگ از نواحی ری كه گروهی از علماء به آن منسوب شده‌‌اند. ميان آن سمنان از راه خراسان در حدود ۲۰ فرسنگ است. صفحه ۴۷۳ ج ۳ معجم البلدان
گرمسار یا خوار در گذشته از مناطق آباد ايران محسوب می‌شده است، حتی در معجم البلدان شهر بزرگ ناميده شده است. ولی عواملی نظیر حمله اقوام مهاجم چون حمله مغول و بعدها تاخت و تاز و حمله و غارت ياغيان تركمن و همين طور نامساعد بودن آب و هوا و فقر اقتصادی موجب خرابی آن شده است.
قبلا شهر گرمسار قشلاق ناميده می‌شد و هنوز هم افراد مسن و پيران به آن قشلاق می‌گویند، این شهر در قدیم از چهار بلوك قشلاق، ريكان، ياتری و آرادان تشکیل شده بود.
در سال ۱۳۱۹ شمسی خوار تبدیل به گرمسار شد. به موجب قانون تقسيمات كشوری جديد مصوب آبان ماه ۱۳۱۶ هجری شمسی گرمسار بخشی از شهرستان سمنان و شامل چهار بلوك بود. بنا به مصوبه مهر ماه ۱۳۲۵ بخش گرمسار از سمنان جدا شده و بخشی از اطراف تهران شد و در آبان ماه همین سال بخش گرمسار تابع شهرستان دماوند شد. سرانجام در سال ۱۳۳۷ بنا به مصوبه هیات وزیران در مورخ ۱۳۳۷/۱۱/۱ به شهرستان تبدیل شد. بخش ايوانكی با دهستان‌های مربوط فعلی از شهرستان تهران جدا شده و يكی از بخش‌‌های تابع شهرستان تازه گرمسار شد. گرمسار در نيمه دوم سال ۱۳۵۵ از استان تهران جداشده و جزو استان سمنان شد و در سال ۱۳۷۴ بخش آرادان با مراكز جمعيتی دهستان آرادان و ياتری احداث شد. هم‌اکنون گرمسار از سه بخش مركزی، ايوانكی و آرادان تشکیل شده و يكی از شهرستان‌های تابع استان سمنان است
Garmsar used to be called the Eater in the past. Khawar is an ancient name and dates back to pre-Islamic times and ancient Iran. In Islamic times it was called Khawarri.
It was one of the sixteen Avesta territories (called Verne), even named after the Assyrians, and was of great importance during the Parthian period.
It is written in the volume of al-Baladan:
Khawar is a historic and large city of Ray districts where a group of scholars have been assigned. Between them Semnan through Khorasan is about 4 hills. Page 6c ۳ Mujam al Baladan
Garmsar or Khawar used to be one of the most populated areas of Iran, even in the great city of Baladan. But factors such as the invasion of tribal peoples such as the Mongol invasion, and later the invasion and looting of the Turkman insurgents, as well as the unfavorable climate and economic poverty, have caused it to collapse.
Formerly called Garmsar Gheshlagh, and the old people are still called Gheshlagh, in the old town it consisted of four blocks of Qeshlagh, Rickan, Yatri and Aradan.
In the 5th year, the solar eclipse became Garmsar. Garmsar was a part of Semnan city and consisted of four blocks under the new state divisions law adopted in November. According to the Mehr Decree, Garmsar was separated from Semnan and became part of Tehran. In November of this year, Garmsar became subordinate to Damavand. Finally, in year 3, it was transformed into a city, according to a Council of Ministers resolution dated 1/5/7. The Ivanki district was separated from the current city of Tehran with the relevant districts and became one of the sub-districts of the new Garmsar district. Garmsar was separated from Tehran province in the second half of the year and became a part of Semnan province. Aradan district was established with Aradan and Yatri district population centers in year 6. Currently Garmsar is composed of three parts: Central, Ivanki and Aradan and is one of the subordinate cities of Semnan province.
