Natanz, an ancient city nestled in the northeastern region of Isfahan, rests against the picturesque backdrop of the Karkas (Vulture) mountain range. Revered as the "Garden City," Natanz owes its title to the abundance of lush gardens and its diverse array of cultivated plants. This remarkable city boasts 1,800 historical landmarks and natural wonders. The Jameh Mosque in Natanz stands out as one of its most notable treasures.

The Jameh Mosque also called the Friday Mosque, is a grand complex comprising multiple religious structures. Within its premises, one can find the Jameh Mosque itself, the Khanqah, the tomb of Sheikh Abdul Samad, and a towering minaret that reaches 37 meters. While these buildings are closely intertwined, their construction spans various periods of history.

The Jameh Mosque dome was erected in the 11th century AD, while most of the other sections were added during the 14th century. These architectural endeavors trace their origins back to the Ilkhanid dynasty, specifically Oljaitu Khodabande and his son, Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan.

The mosque presents three entrances, two in the northern region, while the third graces the southern side. The northern doors align with the courtyard, while the southern entrance stands elevated. It is accessible by a flight of twelve steps leading from the mosque corridor.

Approaching the mosque, one encounters a narrow alleyway that intertwines from the north, east, and south. This alleyway opens up into a spacious entrance adorned with the minaret and the entrance to the Khanqah, resembling a small square.

The southern portion of the Natanz Jameh Mosque showcases exquisite timber double doors intricately embellished with masterful marquetry, showcasing wood engraving art. An engraving at the bottom of the left leaf proudly displays the date 825 A.H.

In this video, you will discover a myriad of exquisite gereh geometric patterns adorning various elements of the mosque, including its walls, muqarnas, and columns.
