Nürnberg is the second largest city in Bavaria after Munich and is beautifully located on the river Pegnitz.
Historically the city always has been a center for art, culture and science and today it features four universities across the city. The city also played an important role during the Holy Roman Empire, where Nürnberg was often referred to as the unofficial capital of the empire.
Much later in history, during the Nazi era, the city again was of great significance, because of the relations to the roman empire and its central location in Germany. That is why Nuremberg was chosen after the war to hold the Nazi trials.
Nowadays Nürnberg is well known now for its beautiful historic old town that is well preserved and with many old buildings still intact, including the imperial castle.
