An original composition by Farya Faraji. Thanks a whole lot to Joan Francesc Oliveras Pallerols for allowing me to use his excellent art. His depictions of ancient Iranians are by far the most historically accurate and high quality ones I have found on the entire internet, be sure to check out his page at: https://jfoliveras.artstation.com/

This illustration of his depicts Spitamenes, a Sogdian warlord and leader of the uprising against Alexander the Great in Bactria and Sogdiana in 329 B.C. He was defeated in December 328 BC by Alexander's general Coenus, at the Battle of Gabai. His daughter, Apama, was married to one of Alexander's generals, Seleucus I Nicator, who became the leader of the Seleucid Empire, and their son would succeed him later on.

Bactria was an ancient region in Central Asia, dominated for much of its history by Iranian/Iranic culture and heritage, such as the Sogdian civilisation. It was a land renowned for its beauty and fertility, and was mentioned in the Avesta as one of the sixteen perfect lands created by Ahura Mazda.
