COVID-19: Lockdown fears spark panic buying in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is calling for calm as panic buying erupts amid fears of a COVID-19 lockdown. Authorities have assured there is adequate stock, adding that the supply of fresh food from the mainland has returned to normal. Local media outlets have reported that the stay-home order will be imposed around mid-March to facilitate a mandatory testing drive for all residents. The testing period will also reportedly be trimmed to nine days. On March 1, Hong Kong reported over 32,000 new infections and a record 117 deaths.
