Renowned Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has been served a notice by the Madhya Pradesh (MP) High Court regarding her book titled “Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible: The Ultimate Manual for Moms-To-Be”. The notice follows a petition filed by advocate Christopher Anthony, seeking the removal of the word ‘Bible’ from the book's title, alleging it to be offensive to the Christian community.
The petition, lodged in Jabalpur, MP, also named co-author Aditi Shah Bhimjyani, publisher Juggernaut Books, and online retailer Amazon Online Shopping as respondents. Anthony, in his complaint, contended that the use of the word ‘Bible’ in the title of a pregnancy guidebook was disrespectful to Christianity and aimed at garnering undue attention for the publication.
The controversy stems from Anthony’s earlier plea to ban the book and remove the word ‘Bible’ from its title, which was dismissed by lower courts due to the absence of an inquiry report from the Jabalpur police regarding his complaint. Undeterred, Anthony pursued the matter in the MP High Court, alleging that the lower courts’ rulings were erroneous and unjust.
In response to the petition, the MP High Court, through Justice GS Ahluwalia, has summoned Kareena Kapoor Khan and the other respondents to provide an explanation for the inclusion of the word ‘Bible’ in the book title within seven days. The court has also issued similar notices to Bhimjyani, Juggernaut Books, and Amazon Online Shopping.
The controversy surrounding the book’s title has sparked debate over religious sensitivities and the boundaries of creative expression. The matter is expected to proceed further in July following the court’s vacation period.
