Ruston Hornsby 1HR Diesel Stationary Engine 1950

Filmed at the Great Dorset Steam Fair in August 2016, this 5½ horsepower 1HR was the smallest in the HR series of horizontal diesel engines made by the British engineering firm, Ruston Hornsby Ltd.  They were produced for a short period in the early 1950s. The twin glass oiler arrangement as shown here is an attractive alternative to the mechanical oiler which was fitted to some engines.

Mounted on a sturdy wooden trolley, this one is running as sweetly as the day it left the factory, over 70 years ago.
