The giant impact hypothesis proposes that 4.5 billion years ago, Planet Theia collided with Planet Earth. The impact between Theia and Earth shot material into space, which led to the creation of the Moon. While there is no physical proof that the giant impact hypothesis ever occurred, geologists discovered massive "rocks" 1800 miles beneath the surface, right in the core. These "rocks" were called Large Low-Shear-Velocity Provinces, and are being studied, as possible remains of Planet Theia.
