WOW! We Made A Giant Mirror Polished Foil Ball!
Have you ever heard of an experiment where the ordinary aluminum foil is turned into a perfect shiny metal ball? Well, even if you haven't, Slick Slime Sam and Sue are going to give it a try and show you all the steps necessary to make it. While Sue is working hard to achieve that perfect round shape by using her own hands (don't forget to wear protective gloves!), a hammer, different types of sandpaper and a special polishing cream, Sam is all about taking measurements and making sure it is done properly. Sam has doubts this experiment will be a success, so watch the video to see if he's right.
Foil pieces, a magnifying glass, a school compass, rulers, pencils, mysterious calculations, Slime Sam with a hammer... What does that all mean??? Sue comes to a complete mess on the table and has no idea what Sam is doing!
As usually, Sam is in no hurry to share his plans with his pet human Sue! She decided to watch him for a little bit and see what this sneaky slime is up to this time. She is forced to intervene when Sam intents on smashing a table with a huge hammer!
Did you figure out what's going on yet? Slime Sam has watched too many viral YouTube videos and decided to make a mirror-polished Japanese foil ball at home! Although after numerous fails he is convinced that it's impossible Sue decides to take on a challenge!
This strange polished foil ball trend became viral after a Japanese YouTuber SkyTOMO posted the first video in March 2018. YouTube exploded with different variations of this bizarre experiment! The whole world became obsessed with hammering and polishing foil into a perfect ball. Kids, teens, adults post the videos with their results and we couldn't resist the temptation either!
We couldn't think of any use for this ball after we made it though, it's just cool to make and fun to play with. You are kind of amazed at how it is even possible and that you are the one who made it with your own two hands (and a talking slime)! Guys, if you know how we can use this ball write in the comments!
It's definitely not the most practical way to spend your time but it's not the worst. It's tedious and takes a great deal of patience and attention to details so if you're really fidgety it might not be a good DIY for you:)
Sam and I noticed that the whole thing was very relaxing and a little bit meditative. You focus on what you're doing right now, it's simple and just takes your mind off everything except this ball in front of you that keeps getting smaller and smoother.
This is a time consuming but easy and really fun experiment you can do at home with an adult supervision.
You will need:
- aluminum foil roll;
- thick safety gloves;
- sandpaper (smaller and larger grit);
- some water;
- metal polish cream;
- a hammer;
- a cloth.
Follow this step-by-step tutorial to make a giant mirror-polished foil ball:
1. Gloves on!
2. Crumple the whole roll of foil in a ball.
3. Press the ball down with your hands as much as you possibly can.
4. Carefully hammer the ball until it shrinks in size by half.
5. Polish the ball with different types of sandpaper (start from the biggest grit).
6. Finish polishing with wet sandpaper to make it even smoother.
7. Make your super ball extra shiny with a cloth and metal polish cream.
8. Enjoy your giant mirror-polished Japanese foil ball! Try to sink it in water, you'll be amazed at what will happen!
