Hey folks, driving in Cairo is interesting to watch. It is never boring on the streets of Cairo. For more information subtitles in different languages are available. If you have suggestions or feedback just leave a comment, thank you.

Welcome to my tour from area "El Fustat" in Old Cairo district  to Zamalek district. within Cairo. Along the Nile we drove north along the Nile Corniche road into the heart of Tahrir Square. Continuing over the Qasr el Nile Bridge we reached Zamalek, a district of Cairo on an island in the Nile. Zamalek is on an island between Cairo and Giza.

You have to watch out for walking people, taxis, toktok's and especially for (white) microbuses. Their behavior is unpredictable and it can lead to a disaster. Otherwise is driving in Cairo, Egypt a funny and enjoyable thing.

El Fustat
El Fustat (الفسطاط) was the first capital of Egypt under Muslim rule.
It was founded in 641 by the general Amr Ibn el As. He also had the "Mosque of Amr" built.
It was the first mosque in Egypt and Africa.
El Fustat was Egypt's capital from A.D. 641-750 and A.D. 905-1168.
Now "El Fustat" is part of "Old Cairo."

Tahrir Square
The Khedive (viceroy) Ismail Pasha was viceroy over the Ottoman province of Egypt from 1867 to 1879.
During this time, this square was built under his leadership.
Known as "Ismailia Square" until 1919, it was unofficially named "Tahrir Square" (Liberation Square) for the first time after the protest against the British occupation.
Only after the military coup of July 23, 1952 and the establishment of a republic on June 18, 1953, the square was officially renamed "Tahrir Square" from 1954.
The square is served by Metro Line M1 and M2. The name of the station is called "Sadat"

Zamalek
Under Ismail Pacha, the island was called "Jardin des Plantes" ("Garden of Plants") because of its large collection of exotic plants from around the world.
French landscape designer De la Chevalerie designed the island's landscaping, complete with gardens and nurseries.
A kiosk was built on the east coast to serve the island and monitor its development.
The kiosk was replaced in 1869 with the Gezirah Palace, a U-shaped summer mansion designed by Julius Franz Pasha and decorated by Karl Von Diebitsch.
The palace was built for guests who attended the inauguration of the Suez Canal in 1869.
Other palaces were also built in Zamalek, including Prince of the Said Toussoun's palace.
Many embassies are located in Zamalek (الزمالك). In addition, many non-Egyptians live there.
It is one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Cairo. Zamalek is located on the island "Gezira." Gezira means "island."
In Zamalek there are many sights such as the Cairo Tower, the Cairo Opera House, the Gezira Palace or the Museum of Islamic Ceramics.
In 2019 the population was estimated at 15.400.
