میدان شهرداری رشت در اوایل سلطنت رضا پهلوی احداث شد و مجموعه آن شامل کاخ شهرداری، موزه پست و ساختمان قدیمی هتل ایران می‌شود. ساختمان شهرداری و برج ساعت آن، نماد شهر رشت است. این بنا هنگام وقوع زلزله مهیب و ویرانگر منجیل در سال ۱۳۶۹ آسیب دید و چندی بعد توسط روبرت واهانیان، به‌صورت سابق مرمت شد.
میدان شهرداری از مشهورترین دیدنی های گیلان در مرکز شهر رشت است. خیابان‌های منتهی به این میدان، تا فاصله حدودا چند صد متر سنگ‌فرش شده‌اند. به همین دلیل نیز، تردد ماشین در این فاصله ممکن نیست. دسترسی به این میدان از طریق خیابان‌های علم الهدی، امام و شریعتی امکان دارد.
ساختمان سفید و زیبای کاخ شهرداری در شهر رشت یکی از جاذبه‌های زیبای این شهر و از چشم‌نوازترین عمارت‌های میدان شهرداری رشت است که توجه گردشگران را به خود جلب می‌کند.
در حال حاضر از قدمت این ساختمان حدود بیش از ۹۰ سال گذشته است و این بنا هنوز توانسته زیبایی خود را حفظ کند. برای ساکنان شهر رشت که هر روز از کنار این عمارت زیبا می‌گذرند، بنا کاملا عادی به نظر می‌رسد، اما برای کسانی که وارد شهر رشت می‌شوند یا از آن می‌گذرند، این بنا و تمامی ساختمان‌های میدان شهرداری چشم‌اندازی زیبا و رویایی دارند.
