How to draft a skirt pattern for a twirly dress or skirt - full circle - without math!
Want to draft a twirly dress? No problem! I got you covered in this math free way.
Follow along:
1. Measure waist. Divide by 4 (or fold measuring tape in 4 -- yep, this is how I do it!).
2. Draw a rectangle with the width of it the waist/4 and the height should be the desired skirt length + hem allowance.
3. Draw lines 2.5cm / 1" apart up the height of the rectangle.
4. Cut along the lines, leaving 1mm at the top connected.
5. Spread the lines out, creating a 90 degree angle.
6. Fill in the gaps between the bottom lines. I free hand this. Some people use a protractor made from a piece of string and pencil. Both methods work fine.
7. This is a quarter of the pattern and needs to be cut on a DOUBLE fold. Mark fold lines.
8. Cut skirt out, sew to dress top or band.
9. Wear, twirl and enjoy!
