Finally, China managed to achieve what was considered to be almost impossible. China succeeded in growing some plants on the moon's surface with the help of a mini biosphere. But the thing worth pondering is how it came possible without the presence of an atmospheric environment on the moon.
China managed to make a soft landing of their Chang'e 4 Lander on the far side of the moon; this is the area of the moon that is not visible from earth. Let me inform you that non of the numerous space agencies managed to get a soft landing on this part of the moon to date.
China has sent a rover and Lunar Micro Ecosystem named mini biosphere with their Chang'e-4 lander. This mini biosphere contains soil, potato, cotton, and some weed seeds along with some fruit fly eggs, water bags, electromagnetic pumps, cameras, and sensors.
This mini biosphere creates a suited environment to prevent the seeds, fungus, and fly eggs from the moon's radiation and extremely high temperatures.
When this biosphere was provided with water, the fruit fly's eggs started to grow and the cotton seeds also got considerable growth within 4 days. After a week, China shut the biosphere down considering the mission successful.
