The world has become very complex due to the advancement of technology. Technology can often manipulate us and change our behavior. It can make us feel more stressed out, depressed, and anxious if we spend too much time on it. In this video, I discuss, "8 "Simple" Hacks For A Healthier Digital Life

1. Become Aware Of “Behavior Modification”

When you spend too much time in the digital world, you can become influenced by what type of content you consume. Consuming too much can lead to your behavior being modified by algorithms. It is important to be aware that too much time in the digital world can lead to behavior changes.

2. Decide How Much Mobile Screen Time Is Healthy

The average American spends 3 hours and 30 minutes a day staring at their smartphone. Not only is this a huge amount of time, but it can also affect your behavior. It is important to set boundaries on yourself and decide how much screen time is enough in one day.

3. Quit Seeking Quick Dopamine Hits

Quick dopamine hits often occur on social media when you get a quick amount of excitement or feel good for a second. The problem with quick dopamine hits is that it makes you feel worse than when you started. Instead of seeking quick dopamine hits, look for sustainable ways to get dopamine like exercise or meditation.

4. Embrace Some Digital Clutter

In the realm of minimalism, people often talk about decluttering to live a more minimalist life. This can often translate into the digital world of keeping your email inbox at 0 or organizing photos. I think there are some areas of life that we should declutter (like work) and other areas that we do not (like personal use). It is up to you to decide what areas should be clutter free, but to not spend too much time decluttering everything. I believe in embracing some digital clutter.

5. 10 Second Free Will Check

In the digital world, it is easy to fall into rabbit holes where we're consuming things very quickly, but the problem with rabbit holes is that we are often being led on by algorithms. It is important to take 10 seconds before going on to the next thing to just make sure that you are the one who wants to continue on.

6. Dumbphone Notification Settings

The average person gets 48 notifications on their smartphone a day and this has created this fake sense of urgency and busyness in our lives. If you do not manage the settings on your phone to turn off unnecessary notifications, then you will be receiving distracting notifications throughout the day. I believe in minimizing my notification settings to only call and SMS text.

7. Protect Your Attention Span

Content is getting shorter and shorter and this is (1) giving you an abundance of quick dopamine hits and (2) lowering your attention span. Consuming too much short form content can harm your attention span. I believe in protecting my attention span by mainly viewing longer videos or content.

8. Know When To Step Aside For Mental Health

The digital world can consume you and harm your mental health. It is important to know when to step aside for your mental health and take moments for yourself.
