Despard Gallery is excited to present the latest video in our Artist Interview Series featuring emerging Tasmanian painter, Zoe Grey. Listen to Zoe describe how Marrawah continues to inspire her practice and how painting has become an important tool to visualise the felt experiences of ‘calling out’ to place and her creative ‘response’.

'Painting aims to reveal how re-calling and re-presenting place helps to deepen and strengthen my connection with home. The work reflects and questions how the act of painting can be a process in unpacking, maintaining and nurturing a relationship to this special environment. Each work depicting place in an attempt to better understand my sense of place.'

Zoe Grey graduated in 2018 with First Class Honours from the School of Creative Arts and Media, University of Tasmania.  Her work is held in private collections across Australia as well as internationally.  Alongside holding exhibitions nationally, recent achievements include being a finalist in the 2021 Hadley’s Art Prize and being awarded a month-long artist residency on King Island.
