Following the Second World War, there were a number of war crimes trials held that brought the main German war criminals to justice. There were many concentration camp guards placed on trial, but the most high profile trials took place at Nuremberg. The remaining members of Hitler's Nazi Government and Inner Circle found themselves in front of international judges, and defendants such as Rudolf Hess and Hermann Goring stood accused of many charges. One man who was also at the Nuremberg Trials and stood charged of all 4 crimes was Arthur Seyss-Inquart.

Seyss-Inquart was key to the German and Nazi annexation of Austria and he basically allowed the Anschluss of the country to occur with the Germans practically invading. Hitler took control of Austria, and he was close with Seyss-Inquart and regarded him as a trusted member of his cabinet. After the Second World War broke out, he served as the Reichskommissar of the Netherlands, and in this role Seyss-Inquart oversaw much of the deportations of those to concentration camps. Dozens of thousands never survived, and it was he who had organised the mass deportations to camps such as Auschwitz. Seyss-Inquart was also responsible for organising executions which aimed to deter the public from committing resistance acts against the German occupiers.

But after the end of World War 2, he was captured and was then placed on trial at the Nuremberg Trials. During this he claimed he was no criminal, but despite being acquitted of one charge Arthur Seyss-Inquart was sentenced to death and was executed. He was the final man to be executed during the Nuremberg Executions by infamous executioner John C Woods.
