Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoosh Jahanpour كيانوش جهانپور announced at a daily press conference on March 22 that 129 people have died of COVID-19 in the country over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,685.
The number of people tested positive for the Coronavirus in Iran has also hit 21,638 after detection of 1,028 new cases over the past 24 hours, he added.
Jahanpour said a total of 7,913 patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease.
The highest number of the new patients has been identified in the province of Tehran with 249 cases, followed by Isfahan with 87 ones, he added.
The novel Coronavirus has infected more than 300,000 people and killed at least 12,944 worldwide.

Iranian Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raeisi عليرضا رئيسي said on Saturday that more than 31.6 million people in the country have been screened for Coronavirus under the national mobilization plan for the battle with COVID-19.
He said around one million people have attended the national plan via the Internet only on Saturday.
Nearly 56,000 Health Ministry experts are screening people through the Internet website and by the telephone, Raeisi added.
Raeisi then called on all Iranians to join the “Stay Home” campaign, refrain from traveling during the Nowruz نوروز holidays, and avoid gatherings to cut off the chain of spread of the disease.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri سرلشگر محمد حسين باقري said the bulk of military hospitals across the country have begun to admit the Coronavirus patients to help the Health Ministry.
In remarks at a military meeting on Sunday, the top general said out of the 58 hospitals of the Iranian Armed Forces, 52 are now treating the Coronavirus patients.
He also noted that the Armed Forces had made the necessary arrangements before the outbreak of COVID-19 in Iran and had geared up for the epidemic.
Since the early hours of outbreak of Coronavirus in the city of Qom شهر قم, the military hospitals have been providing assistance in the battle with the disease, he noted.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei علي خامنه اي rejected the offer of help for Iran from the “untrustworthy” US government in the fight against the Coronavirus outbreak, saying such disease may have been created by the US as part of its hostile plots against Iranians.
The Leader said the US has made such offer of help while Washington itself is struggling with a shortage of medical supplies in containing the Coronavirus epidemic, pointing to the admissions made by the mayors and medical authorities of various American cities that they are facing many problems.
Moreover, Ayatollah Khamenei added, the US is accused of having created the Coronavirus, and there are clues to this accusation.
No wise person would request help from the US when such untrustworthy government is accused of being behind the creation of COVID-19, the Leader noted, saying there are reports that a strain of the virus has been created to target the Iranian genome and people as part of the hostility that the US and the West show towards the Iranian nation.
Even if the US is ready to give Iran medical assistance, it might be still another American plot to infiltrate into the country through medical teams and to bring a series of medicines into Iran that could result in a wider spread of the virus or make the contagious disease sustain in the country, Ayatollah Khamenei warned.
The Leader also noted that the US medical teams might be also seeking to gather information about the damages caused by the Coronavirus and complete their data on the destructive power of the disease among Iranians.
Ayatollah Khamenei finally called on all Iranian people and authorities to exercise patience and prudence in the face of enemies, continue resistance, and ignore the discouraging news and analyses from the figures who advise people to abandon resistance.
