Before Andy was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, she lived a carefree life. After her diagnosis, she didn’t know how to proceed. Slowly, she started going out more with her friends, eventually throwing party to bid farewell to her breasts before a double mastectomy.
Andy has used her cancer journey to educate others on metastatic breast cancer, which is breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast to other organs in the body.
“You are given your birthday and then your death day, and in between those two is a dash,” she said. “What are you doing with that dash? Nobody ever thinks about that when they look at your tombstone, but that’s what’s the most important, not those other two. So you gotta work on that dash and just make sure you live every moment.”
Andy is working on her dash every day.
