Shahsun's title in Persian means king's friend. The title was renamed El-Sun or People's Friend after the Islamic Revolution. . But the political term for the slogan became relevant when it came to supporters of King Ismail II, while disputes over his successor Shah Tahmaseb, including that of Tahmaseb's daughter Parikhan Khanum, a powerful politician in favor of Ismail Mirza declared himself King of Sun.
Today, the Shahsuns have settled in other neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan and Kashmir, in addition to Iran.
