As always we used relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to try and create a fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy!

MY THOUGHTS ON THE CAMPAIGN: Maybe it's the nostalgia. Maybe I'm looking at this with rose tinted glasses gazing into the past. But if I had to rate this campaign (campaign only, not multiplayer) I would give this a 9.5 out of 10. It simply took me back to my childhood, when I would play Medal of Honor and the old WW2 Call of Duty's on my Gamecube. The campaign and mission structure remind me of those games, even though Battlefield 1 is in a different period.

The game story is the combination of 5 different war stories, from the different theaters in the Great War. They are all unrelated to each other, and have completely different characters. Each story has excellent characters full of personality, something that is extremely rare for a first person shooter. The campaign never gets stale, as it constantly switches the pace and objective. You'll have tank missions, stealth missions, airplane missions etc. The difficulty is perfect on normal. You have to play smart, you can't just run and gun your way through every location. You have to be tactical with your approach. The game really conduces that by giving you binoculars to scope out locations, lures to lead away soldiers, and the ability to spot and mark soldiers. The checkpoints are also more sparse than most games nowadays. Far enough in between that it adds to the challenge, but now so far that it feels frustrating. The shooting mechanics feel as smooth and responsive.

The cutscenes are absolutely beautiful. Facial animations are excellent during the cutscenes, although sometimes it felt slightly out of sync. There is more advanced weaponry than there actually was in WW1, but not so much that you feel it detracts from the game. The majority of it feels right in the world, like it could have existed in that time period.  All in all it took 8 and half hours to beat. My only complaints are minor glitches. Loading times were also long for a 2016 game. The hit registration seemed to be wonky at times. I would have my gun pointed at the heart of someone, and sometimes the shot wouldn't register. The game also crashed/froze twice. Nothing big, but slightly frustrating. It would also be nice if there was a larger narrative that combined everything together, but I understand that that's not what they were going for. I mean, World War 1 is the larger narrative anyway. It especially makes sense with the storytelling of the time. It reminds me of Ernest Hemingway short stories.

Thanks to EA for the free copy of Battlefield 1. All opinions are my own and do not reflect EA's.
