Worm is a self-published web serial by John C. "Wildbow" McCrae and the first installment of the Parahumans series. The web serial is known for subverting and playing around with common tropes and themes of superhero fiction.
The protagonist of Worm is a teenage girl who develops the power to control insects, arachnids, and other simple lifeforms. In an attempt to defeat the superpowered gang leader, she it thrown in the criminal underworld of Brocton Bay working as a double agent in an up and coming villain team, balancing her civilian identity with the crimes she must commit to take this group down all while the city erupts into a gang war.
