The world's largest tomb and its Terracotta Army hide deadly perils

The First Chinese Emperor and the Quest for Immortality

Frightful hidden traps arouse the apprehension of archaeologists in front of the planned opening of the tomb of the first Chinese emperor.
A formidable welcome would await whoever dared to open the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the very first emperor of China, with its crossbows ready to fire and its disconcerting silvery currents of mercury. Faced with this imminent threat lodged in the heart of the mausoleum, where the extraordinary Terracotta Army also stands, the archaeologists prefer to give up their undertaking.
The Terracotta Army is an impressive collection of thousands of life-size clay figurines representing soldiers, horses and chariots. These figurines were placed around the vast mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, nicknamed the Yellow Emperor, the first emperor of China and founder of the Qin dynasty.
This monumental mausoleum is located near the city of Xi'an, in the province of Shaanxi, in the heart of China. The purpose of this terracotta army was presumably to guard the sacred tomb or to serve the ruler in his afterlife.
Dear adventurers, I greet you and invite you to this new quest that transports us to the Middle Kingdom, at the dawn of this fascinating civilization. Together, let's explore this mysterious site, a real treasure of history, nestled in the heart of the Empire.

Our expedition guides us to a place where the past comes alive, revealing on one side the imperial sepulcher of Qin Shi Huangdi, which has remained unexplored to this day, and on the other, the treasures buried in the pits housing the remains preserved from thousands of baked clay soldiers. This site of wonder covers an impressive area of nearly 56.25 square kilometers.
The discovery of this amazing site dates back to the year 1974. The figures of a remarkable fidelity to realism offer an invaluable perspective on the art of war of ancient China, presenting a variety of weapons and armor as well as mechanical details of tanks and command structures.
Born as Zhao Zheng in 259 BC, the future emperor was only 13 years old when he took the throne as king of Qin province. By 221 BCE, he had already conquered several other provinces and proclaimed himself Qin Shi Huangdi, meaning "the first august emperor of Qin". His brief reign was marked by major advances in the centralization of power, the unification of systems of writing, weights and measurement, as well as in monetary and legal matters.
