The Martyrdom of Bibi Sakina s.a refers to the tragic death of Sakina bint al-Hussain. Certainly, Bibi Sakina (s.a), also known as Ruqayyah bint Imam Hussain, was the youngest daughter of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (a.s), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). After the battle, the surviving members of Imam Hussain's family, including women and children, were taken captive and subjected to a long and arduous journey from Karbala to Damascus, the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate. Bibi Sakina (s.a), being a young child, suffered immensely during this journey. She endured thirst, hunger, and the harsh conditions of captivity. The harrowing account of Bibi Sakina's (s.a) suffering at the hands of Shimr ل after the Battle of Karbala is a deeply distressing chapter in the history of Karbala. Shimr's heinous actions, such as slapping her, denying her water, and subjecting her to physical and emotional torment. It is quoted in Ziyarat e Nahiya by our 12th Imam Mehdi (a.s) that "Peace be upon her whose face changed the colors (due to torture by Shimr on her face) during the journey from Karbala to Damascus". In the history it is also quoted that Bibi Sakina (s.a) was bruetly tied to the back of camel during the journey by the Shimr ل. Bibi Sakina (s.a), merely four years old, endured an agonizing journey that saw her isolated and separated from her family, her mother, her Brother Sajjad (a.s) and her Aunts, left to grapple with her father's martyrdom and the unbearable weight of her captivity. This tragic episode underscores the resilience of a young child who faced unimaginable hardship and exemplifies the profound injustices suffered by the family of Imam Hussain.
The emotional distress of losing her father and other loved ones, coupled with the harsh treatment she received, took a heavy toll on her. Her tragic death occurred in the prison of Damascus, where she succumbed to her suffering and passed away.
