One of the highlights of a visit to Turkistan is the Mausoleum dedicated to the 12th-century Sufi poet and philosopher, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.
Construction of this massive mausoleum commenced in the late 14th century but remained incomplete. Nevertheless, it has evolved into one of the most vital pilgrimage sites for Muslims, as well as the city's most renowned landmark.
