Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was promising again to tackle Canada’s housing crisis on Wednesday.

Trudeau and his cabinet ministers wrapped up a three-day cabinet retreat that focused on housing. But he didn’t have any concrete plans to resolve the housing crisis in Hamilton and across the country.

Having survived the housing crisis, Pauline Roberts is transitioning to a new apartment in Hamilton after an eight-month search prompted by losing her previous residence due to a complaint, which had led to a period of homelessness and considerable frustration.

“I am lucky to get this,” she said. “I feel blessed for having this.” Pauline is just one face of the housing crisis in Canada.

Trudeau and his cabinet ministers have been meeting at a retreat to focus on housing and says everyone needs to work together.

The opposition is looking for something more, like action.

“We will have the world talking about a humanitarian crisis, not in a developing country on the other side of the Atlantic but right here in Canada. That’s where this is heading. We have never seen it like this before and we were supposed to have solutions out of this big housing retreat Trudeau held,” said Pierre Poilievre.

“We just saw a three-day cabinet retreat where the prime minister came out of that meeting and had nothing to announce on housing, on one of the most serious things we’re up against,” said Jagmeet Singh.

But Pauline Roberts isn’t listening to the politicians any more.

“I tune them out because they’re not listening to the real people that are suffering. They’re not listening to the low and moderate income people,” said Roberts. “We’re the ones that’s suffering. You’re not listening to us. You need to listen to us.”
