Moving over to Iran, where the state-run IRNA news agency reported on Sunday that Tehran has successfully launched three satellites into space. Sunday's launch also reportedly saw the successful use of Iran's previously failed Simorgh rocket.
Iran's state TV showed the nighttime launch at the Imam Khomeini Spaceport in the rural Semnan province. The payload included three satellites; Mahda, Kayhan-2 and Hatef-1. The agency described Mahda as a research satellite, while the Kayhan and Hatef were nano-satellites for global positioning and communication.
After five failed launches for the Simorgh program, the space rocket reportedly saw its first successful lift-off. The West has been expressing concerns over Iran's space program for its potential contribution to Tehran's ballistic missiles capabilities.
UN sanctions in relation to Iran's ballistic missile program expired October last year.
